Woman charged following retail theft in Wallaceburg

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A woman is facing charges following a reported theft at a retail store in Wallaceburg on Christmas Eve.

Chatham-Kent police say officers were called to a business on McNaughton Avenue at about 12:33 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2025, after a store representative reported that a female had left the store with unpaid merchandise. The suspect was last seen walking northbound on McNaughton Avenue.

At about 12:37 p.m., officers located a woman matching the description near McNaughton Avenue and Gillard Street. Police say the woman dropped a bag when approached, and officers found various items of merchandise inside.

A 32-year-old woman from Walpole Island was arrested and charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. She was taken to police headquarters and later released with conditions. A court appearance has been scheduled for Jan. 21, 2026.
