Update: Flood warning continues as water levels remain elevated

A flood warning remains in effect across the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority watershed as water levels stay elevated following a combination of rainfall, freezing rain and snowmelt over the past week.

In its latest update issued Dec. 31, 2025, the SCRCA said many watercourses have peaked and are beginning to recede, however some areas continue to experience high water levels and localized impacts.

Bear Creek near Brigden continues to rise, although officials say the rate of increase has slowed significantly from earlier in the event and is expected to continue slowing.

Black Creek near Bickford Line peaked overnight Tuesday but remains above bankfull conditions.

With temperatures forecast to remain well below freezing throughout the week, the conservation authority says water is expected to remain stored on land as snow and ice, limiting additional runoff into watercourses.

Bear Creek near Brigden is expected to peak within the next day or two.

The SCRCA has confirmed that Plowing Match Road, between Petrolia Line and Rokeby Line in the Township of Enniskillen, has been closed due to flooding.

Officials warn that other roads in the region may also be impacted as conditions evolve.

Municipal emergency response staff and road superintendents are being urged to monitor local conditions closely and to relay information regarding flooded roads and closures to conservation authority staff.

Residents are being reminded to avoid watercourses and flooded areas due to dangerous conditions, including slippery banks, unsafe ice and cold, fast-moving water.

The conservation authority also cautions that children and pets should be kept well away from affected areas.

The St. Clair Region Conservation Authority says it will continue to monitor watershed conditions and will issue further advisories to municipalities and media should additional flood concerns arise.

The flood warning will remain in effect until noon on Jan. 2, 2026, unless otherwise updated.
