All-Ontario farmers curling bonspiel returns to Wallaceburg

The 39th annual All-Ontario Farmers Curling Bonspiel is set to return to Wallaceburg from Jan. 16 to 18, bringing a weekend of curling competition, entertainment and community spirit to the Sydenham Community Curling Club.

The club is expected to be busy throughout the weekend as 28 teams compete for a prize board valued at more than $15,000. The first-place team will take home $3,400 in cash, while much of the remaining prize board is made up of farm products and services. Defending champions skipped by Jim Jerry Meyskens are scheduled to return, with the remaining teams aiming to unseat last year’s winners.

Teams will play two games before being seeded into flights, allowing for up to four additional games and ensuring all skill levels are accommodated. Participants are travelling in from communities across Ontario, including Cookstown, Espanola, Arthur, Stayner, Forest and Orillia.

Beyond the curling action, the weekend features several fan-favourite events. Combine races will take place at the club on Friday, followed by a performance from local musician Mike Gallant. Saturday night entertainment will spotlight Colt McLaughlin, whose high-energy show is expected to draw a strong crowd.

The bonspiel is organized by a local volunteer committee and serves as a major fundraiser for the Sydenham Community Curling Club, which provides four sheets of ice, a clubroom and a central meeting place for the Wallaceburg community.

Organizers note the event is open to spectators, with musical entertainment also open to the public.
