Ontario commits $2-million to expand Plympton-Wyoming Public School

The Ontario government is investing $2 million to expand Plympton-Wyoming Public School, a move aimed at supporting local families and addressing growth in the community.

The funding, announced Jan. 5, 2026, will support an addition to the elementary school at 606 Thames Street, creating 69 new student spaces. The project is part of a broader provincial investment in 12 new or expanded schools across fast-growing communities and aligns with Ontario’s plan to invest $23 billion over the next decade to build, renew and improve schools.

“By building and expanding schools across the province, we’re making sure students can learn in modern, high-quality environments that support strong achievement,” said Paul Calandra, Minister of Education. “These investments will help students gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed and prepare for rewarding careers.”

The project will be delivered through the Lambton Kent District School Board. Local MPP Bob Bailey welcomed the investment, saying, “The funding for a new addition to Plympton-Wyoming Public School is great news for our local community. Through this investment, we’re creating opportunities for students to thrive today and well into the future.”

The province says the announcement builds on historic levels of school capital funding, with $1.3 billion committed annually over the past two years for new buildings, additions and renovations — the highest level in Ontario’s history. For the 2025–26 school year, the Ministry of Education continues to provide $1.4 billion to school boards to renew and improve schools.

“We are grateful to the Ministry of Education for this investment in Plympton-Wyoming Public School, and, in doing so, the growing Plympton-Wyoming community. This addition will provide our students with modern, high-quality learning spaces that foster success and well-being. Our priority is to ensure every student has the resources and environment they need to thrive, and this funding helps us deliver on that promise,” said Gary Girardi, Director of Education for the Lambton Kent District School Board.

Lambton Kent District School Board officials say the expansion will help meet the needs of a growing community.
