Man arrested on outstanding warrant in Chatham assault case

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 72-year-old Chatham-Kent man has been arrested on an outstanding bench warrant in connection with an assault investigation dating back to May 2025.

Chatham-Kent police say officers initially responded to a report of an assault on Murray Street on May 12, 2025. The investigation determined the accused allegedly assaulted a 59-year-old woman from Chatham, causing facial injuries that required hospital treatment. The accused left the scene before police arrived.

The man was charged with assault causing bodily harm and arrested on May 13, 2025, but later failed to attend court on two occasions, resulting in a warrant for his arrest.

On Jan. 6, 2026, at about 8:17 a.m., the accused was located on Princess Street North in Chatham and arrested on the strength of the warrant. He was transported to Chatham-Kent police headquarters and then to the South West Detention Centre, where he remains in custody pending a video court appearance scheduled for Jan. 9, 2026.
