Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police have charged two individuals following a reported home invasion in the city’s south end earlier this month.
Police say officers were called to a residence in the 100 block of Christina Street South on Jan. 5 at approximately 7:45 p.m. after a 9-1-1 call reporting a violent break and enter. The caller reported that four individuals, described as two males and two females, forced their way into the residence. Police say the male suspects were masked and may have been armed with a firearm.
When officers arrived, the suspects had already fled the scene. Police increased their presence in the downtown area, including the deployment of a police service dog for a search. During the investigation, officers identified two of the four suspects believed to be involved, and the K9 track led to the recovery of a knife police say was used during the attempted break-in.
The investigation later led officers to an apartment on George Street. Police say two female suspects were arrested after being observed leaving the unit several hours later. The identity of the male suspects remains under investigation.
A 21-year-old woman from George Street, Sarnia, was charged with break and enter and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. A second accused, a teenage female, was also charged with break and enter, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and two counts of uttering threats. Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the identity of the young person cannot be released.
Police say both accused were released by the court with conditions following their bail hearings.
