Man charged following theft investigation on Grand Avenue West

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Chatham man is facing multiple charges following a theft investigation at a business on Grand Avenue West.

On January 8, 2026, at approximately 9:28 a.m., the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to a report of a theft at a local business. Police say a male suspect stole merchandise and fled the store through a rear exit on a bicycle.

Officers located the individual a short time later on Robertson Avenue. Through further investigation and a review of surveillance footage, police identified the accused as a 39-year-old male from Chatham. It was also determined he was the suspect in a previous theft incident reported on December 29, 2025.

The accused was charged in connection with both incidents, including theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and failure to comply with a probation order. He was transported to the Southwest Regional Detention Centre and is scheduled to appear in video court on January 15, 2026.
