Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 30-year-old man from Walpole Island has been arrested following a reported theft at a business on St. Clair in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police say officers were called to the location at about 12:39 p.m. on Jan. 12. The investigation determined the man entered the business, opened an alcoholic beverage and began consuming it inside the store. Employees directed him to leave, but police say he later returned, selected merchandise and left without paying.
Officers located the man a short distance away and arrested him. He was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and was taken to police headquarters where he was held for bail.
