Jean Fraser Merritt of Wallaceburg passed away peacefully at the CKHA in Chatham on Friday, January 9, 2026 in her 96th year.
Jean was the daughter of the late Hank (Henry) and Katherine (Forbes) MacFarlane.
Predeceased by her beloved husband Peter Blake Merritt on April 3, 1989. Loving mother of Mike (Helen) of Niagara Falls, Ontario and Dan (Jandra) of St. Albert, Alberta. Dear grandmother of David (Ashley), Raquel (Walker), Greg (Robbyn), Nicole and Peter and great grandmother of Bradley, Adriano, Ava, Lucas, and Ruby. Sister of Jere MacFarlane (Olga) and Mary Kay Amlin (Ron). She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews Maureen (Guy: deceased), Brian (Joni), Patti Jean (Joe), Peggi Anne (Leonard), Sara (Andrew), Steven (Brittany) and great nieces and nephews Carter, Brooklyn, Lochlan, Everitt, Nicole, Michelle, Rachael, Joe and Nolan as well as cousins Jim Switzer and Anne Frazie (Switzer) Winters (Randy).
Jean had worked at Taylor’s Garage and Leisure Sports. She loved to travel and enjoyed visiting Banff, the Maritimes, Germany, Brazil and Ecuador.
She was a great lover and collector of anything butterflies.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231). A celebration of Jean’s life will be announced in the spring.
