Residents seeking to make debit payments for municipal services may face disruptions as the Municipality of Chatham-Kent deals with an outage affecting debit payment services at most municipal centres.
Municipal officials said debit payments can currently only be processed at the Blenheim Municipal Centre, Chatham Civic Centre and Wallaceburg Municipal Centre.
Residents using debit at those locations may experience longer wait times, as only one debit payment terminal is available at each site.
The municipality said all other payment methods, including cash, cheque and credit card payments, remain available and are not affected by the outage.
However, officials reminded residents that credit cards cannot be used for property tax payments, municipal housing rent payments, municipal drain payments or Entegrus payments.
The interruption does not affect ServiceOntario transactions at the Chatham and Dresden municipal centres. Debit payments for ServiceOntario services continue to be accepted as normal at those locations.
Municipal staff are working to restore full service and said updates on the duration of the outage and the restoration of debit payment services will be provided as more information becomes available.
