Update: Fire displaces residents in Blenheim, damages estimated at $500,000

Update: A residential structure fire in Blenheim early Thursday morning displaced several residents and caused an estimated $500,000 in damage.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue responded to the multi-unit fire at 83 Talbot St. East at about 7:25 a.m. Fire crews arrived to find a working fire inside the residence, with three units affected.

Stations from Blenheim, North Harwich and Erieau were dispatched to the scene, along with command staff. Chatham-Kent police and emergency medical services were also on scene to assist with operations.

All occupants were safely evacuated from the building and no injuries were reported. Residents have been displaced as a result of the fire, and Victim Services was called in to help arrange temporary accommodations.

The Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified and is attending. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Police and fire officials remained on scene as of Thursday morning.

Original story: Firefighters from multiple Chatham-Kent stations are responding to a residential fire in Blenheim.

Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue says crews from Station 18 in Blenheim, Station 12 in North Harwich and Station 14 in Erieau were dispatched to a home at 83 Talbot St. East shortly before 7:30 a.m. Friday.

Residents were being advised to avoid the area while crews continue to respond to the incident.

No further details were immediately available.
