Oxford County warden elected chair of Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus

The Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus has elected Oxford County Warden Marcus Ryan as its chair for a one-year term, effective Jan. 9.

The appointment was announced following the organization’s annual general meeting, where officers for the coming year were confirmed. Ryan said the caucus will continue to press for coordinated action on key regional priorities.

“It is an honour to serve as Chair of the Western Ontario Wardens’ Caucus for the coming year,” said Chair Ryan. “Western Ontario is Ontario’s economic engine, and our region is facing both significant pressures and tremendous opportunity. Through a strong, united voice, the WOWC will continue to advocate for strategic investments in housing, infrastructure, workforce development, and the supports needed to address mental health, addictions, and homelessness—ensuring our communities remain strong, competitive, and resilient.”

Lambton County Warden Kevin Marriott was re-elected as vice-chair, while senior municipal administrators from across the region were also appointed to officer roles. The caucus also confirmed committee leadership, including the appointment of Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn as chair of the WOWC Economic Development Sub-Committee, with Grey County Warden Andrea Matrosovs set to serve as chair of the Western Ontario Municipal Conference in 2026.

The WOWC board for the 2026–27 term brings together wardens and senior municipal leaders from across the region, including Chatham-Kent Mayor Darrin Canniff, alongside representatives from counties spanning Oxford, Lambton, Norfolk, Grey, Simcoe, Wellington, Brant, Perth, Elgin, Essex, Huron, Dufferin, Bruce and Middlesex.

“Collaboration will remain central to our work this year,” Ryan added. “By working closely with municipal leaders, senior levels of government, industry, and community partners, the WOWC will continue to advance shared priorities that reflect the realities of our region and deliver tangible outcomes for the people of Western Ontario.”
