Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Two individuals were arrested and remanded into custody following a traffic stop in Sarnia that led police to discover outstanding warrants and a dangerous weapon.
On Jan. 16, 2026, at about 10:24 a.m., officers observed a white SUV committing a traffic infraction and attempted to stop the vehicle on Murphy Road, south of Wiltshire Drive. As the vehicle turned into a parking lot, police observed the front-seat passenger throw an object into the rear of the SUV, while the rear-seat occupant appeared to lie down in an attempt to conceal himself.
Officers approached the vehicle and identified a 31-year-old woman from Hamilton in the front passenger seat and a 30-year-old man from Wallaceburg in the rear seat. Police were aware both individuals were wanted on multiple outstanding Sarnia Police Service warrants and they were taken into custody.
When the rear-seat occupant was removed from the vehicle, officers observed a baseball bat-style weapon with jagged metal pieces. Further investigation determined the object thrown into the back of the vehicle was an open beer can.
The driver and owner of the SUV, a 48-year-old Sarnia woman, was issued Highway Traffic Act and Liquor Licence and Control Act tickets. Her identity was not released as the offences were dealt with by ticket.
The Hamilton woman was held for bail on the strength of her outstanding warrants. The Wallaceburg man was also held on his warrants and faces additional charges including possession of a dangerous weapon and multiple counts of failing to comply with release and probation orders. Both individuals were remanded into custody by the courts.
