Warrant arrest made following theft investigation in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Chatham woman was arrested Monday evening on an outstanding warrant following a theft investigation.

Chatham-Kent police say officers were initially called to a business on Wellington Street West on Jan. 19, 2026, for a reported theft. An investigation determined an individual entered the store, selected merchandise, concealed the items and left without paying. Surveillance footage was reviewed and a 30-year-old woman from Chatham was identified as the accused.

She was subsequently charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On Jan. 26, at about 9:01 p.m., officers located the accused on Linden Street in Chatham and arrested her on the strength of the warrant. She was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where she is being held for bail.
