Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Sarnia police have charged a 15-year-old female following a weapons-related incident reported in the early morning hours of Jan. 28, 2026.
At 1:07 a.m., officers were called to a residence in the Nelson Street and Capel Street area after receiving a report about a photograph shared on social media that appeared to show a young person with a firearm.
Police attended the area, established containment around the residence and safely removed all occupants without incident. During a search of the home, officers located a 13-year-old female victim hiding in the basement.
Investigators allege the victim was confronted by the 15-year-old, who was in possession of what appeared to be a handgun. Police say the victim was forced into the residence, directed to pose for a photograph, instructed to share the image on social media and threatened not to contact police.
A search warrant was later executed at the residence, where officers located an imitation firearm later determined to be a BB gun designed to resemble a real firearm.
As a result of the investigation, the youth has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm, forcible confinement and uttering threats to cause death.
The accused was released on bail with conditions. The identity of the youth cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
