Wallaceburg Minor Hockey invites girls to try the game at free skate

The Wallaceburg Minor Hockey Association is inviting young players to hit the ice and discover girls’ hockey during a free “Try It” Skate aimed at building the next generation of local teams.

“Strong skaters. Big smiles. New friends”.

The event is open to girls in the U9 and U11 age groups for the upcoming season, with eligible birth years ranging from 2016 to 2019. It will take place Saturday, Feb. 7, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Wallaceburg Arena. Full hockey equipment is required, but there is no cost to participate.

Organizers say the skate is designed to introduce players to the game in a fun, supportive environment while helping grow the association’s girls’ program. The association is working toward forming both U9 and U11 girls’ teams next season, and players from the U15 girls’ team will be on the ice to mentor, support and welcome the younger skaters.

Parents and guardians are asked to register their skater in advance through an online form. Those with questions can contact Sean Hogan, WMHA U7 convener, by email.

The association says it is looking forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new ones as it works to get more girls involved in hockey in Wallaceburg.
