Woman arrested on outstanding warrant in Chatham retail theft investigation

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A Chatham-Kent woman has been arrested on an outstanding warrant in connection with a retail theft investigation dating back to August 2025.

Chatham-Kent police say officers originally responded to a report of theft at a retail store on Wellington Street West on Aug. 14, 2025, at approximately 7:34 p.m. Investigation determined a female had entered the store, selected merchandise, placed the items into a shopping bag and left without attempting to pay.

Police identified the accused through surveillance footage as a 50-year-old woman from Chatham-Kent. She was charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, and a warrant was issued for her arrest.

On Aug. 20, 2025, the accused was located on Jeffery Street in Chatham and arrested on the strength of the warrant. She was later released with conditions and a court date, which police say she failed to attend on several occasions.

On Feb. 9, 2026, at approximately 7:47 p.m., the accused was located during a person stop on Queen Street in Chatham and arrested on the outstanding warrant. She was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service headquarters, where she was held for bail.
