Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 37-year-old woman is facing a theft charge after police say a package was stolen from the porch of a Crawford Street home on Saturday afternoon.
Police said that on Feb. 14, 2026, at about 3:01 p.m., security video recorded a suspect taking a package from the residence. Officers were called immediately and arrived within minutes to investigate.
According to police, video footage showed a woman walking southbound on Crawford Street before noticing a package on a porch. She approached the home and took the parcel, which contained approximately $45 worth of items, including Toronto Maple Leaf hats. The suspect then continued southbound on Crawford Street before turning west onto Talford Street.
An officer searched the area and located a woman matching the description at Margaret and Richard streets. She was arrested without incident. A search following the arrest uncovered two new, still-wrapped Toronto Maple Leaf hats.
The accused, 37, of no fixed address, was charged with theft under $5,000 and released on a police undertaking. The stolen property was returned to the homeowner.
“While our officers are often called to high-priority events, we also respond quickly to less serious offences when we can. Theft and property crimes affect the quality of life in our neighbourhoods, and we will continue to hold those offenders accountable. I commend the officer for their speedy and effective response to this call,” said Chief Derek Davis of the Sarnia Police Service.
