Wallaceburg library announces winter and March Break programming

The Wallaceburg branch of the Chatham-Kent Public Library is offering a wide range of programs for children, teens and adults from mid-February through April, including special March Break activities.

The Library LEGO Checkout Club runs from Feb. 16 to March 31. Visitors to the Wallaceburg branch can receive a ballot for every book they check out for a chance to win a LEGO set. Participants can also contribute to a community tower each time they borrow books. Registration is not required.

On Saturday, Feb. 21 at 11 a.m., the branch will host CK Kids Club: Let’s Celebrate Black History Month. This month’s Kids Club recognizes Chatham-Kent’s rich Black history. Children will work with clay in honour of local artist Shreve Lane. The program is sponsored by Waste Connections of Canada. Registration is required and the program is open to children ages six to 12.

Spice Club will take place Tuesday, Feb. 24 at 7:05 p.m. Participants can register by calling 519-354-2940 or texting 519-401-7174. Each Spice Club kit includes information about the featured spice, two recipe cards and a sample of the spice. Participants are invited to join a virtual Spice Club discussion on Zoom that evening at 7:05 p.m.

Adult Craft Night: Loom Beading 101 is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 26 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The beginner-friendly session will teach participants the basics of loom beading. Registration is required.

Storytime runs Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. from March 5 to April 9. The program features stories, songs and rhymes for children 18 months and older and their caregivers. Registration is preferred but not required.

LEGO drop-in sessions will be held the second Saturday of the month, March 14 and April 11. Participants of all ages are invited to get creative with the library’s bins of LEGO.

St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dogs will visit Saturday, March 14 and April 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. Community members can meet Bright or Wally. Registration is not required.

The Knitting and Crochet Club meets Thursdays from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can trade patterns, give suggestions or learn a new skill. Registration is not required.

During March Break, the branch will offer several themed activities. St. Patrick’s Day Stay and Play runs March 16 to March 17 during open hours. Participants can search the sensory bin for hidden coins, make a St. Patrick’s Day craft and complete a scavenger hunt.

Dinosaurs Stay and Play will take place March 16 to March 21 during open hours. Visitors can search for hidden dinosaurs around the library, complete a hunt to receive a dinosaur sticker, explore dinosaurs in the sensory bin and make a craft.

Dinosaur Discovery is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 at 2:30 p.m. Participants are invited to complete a sticker-by-number dinosaur picture and excavate a dinosaur from stone. Registration is required and the program is open to ages six and up.

Police Services Family Storytime will be held Thursday, March 19 at 10:30 a.m. Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service Mobilization Section will join library staff to read stories and discuss positive messages. Registration is preferred but not required.

The Chop Saw Program takes place Thursday, March 19 at 12:30 p.m. Participants ages eight and up can turn ordinary cardboard into creative projects using the Chomp Saw. Registration is required.
