Rainfall warning
A yellow rainfall warning issued at 5:43 a.m. EDT Wednesday indicates moderate impacts are possible as rain, heavy at times, moves through the region today. Forecasters say the saturated or frozen ground will have little ability to absorb the rainfall, with totals of 20 to 40 mm expected and locally higher amounts possible in areas that receive thunderstorms. The rain is forecast to begin this morning and continue through the day as a series of low-pressure systems bring significant precipitation across parts of southern Ontario, with the Huron–Perth region potentially receiving 50 to 60 mm in total. Officials warn that water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas, and residents are advised not to drive through flooded roadways, avoid low-lying areas, and watch for washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts. For flooding information, residents should consult their local conservation authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, or visit Ontario.ca/floods for updates. Environment Canada also encourages the public to monitor alerts and forecasts and to report severe weather by emailing ONstorm@ec.gc.ca
or posting on X using the hashtag #ONStorm.
