Chatham man charged with mischief and criminal harassment after downtown disturbance

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 30-year-old Chatham man is facing charges following a disturbance at a downtown business Wednesday afternoon.

Chatham-Kent police said officers responded March 11, 2026, at about 3:23 p.m. to a report of a suspicious person near King Street West. The individual had attended a local business and caused issues despite being asked to leave on several occasions and being trespassed from the premises.

Police said the man was reported to be carrying a metal pipe or wrench and was later seen removing a knife from his backpack before putting it back. No weapons were used in the commission of the offence.

Officers located the individual nearby and identified him as a 30-year-old Chatham man. He was arrested without further incident.

He has been charged with mischief — obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property — and criminal harassment.

The man was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters for processing and held for a bail hearing.
