Officials say a hydrocarbon sheen detected on the St. Clair River near Suncor Sarnia has been contained at the source and has not affected the municipal water supply.
According to an update issued Thursday morning through Sarnia-Lambton Alerts, the sheen was identified on the river Wednesday night.
The alert stated, “Suncor Sarnia had a hydrocarbon sheen identified on the river last night.”
Officials reported the spill was quickly assessed and controlled, preventing it from spreading downstream.
“The spill was assessed and contained at the source with no downstream impact,” the notice said.
Cleanup operations are ongoing.
Authorities also reassured residents that drinking water systems remain unaffected.
“The Municipal Water System has NOT been affected,” the alert said.
Officials added that further updates will only be issued if conditions change.
“There will be no new updates unless the situation changes.”
