Gusty winds expected in Chatham-Kent through Tuesday morning

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Chatham-Kent warning of gusty winds that could lead to minor damage and possible power outages through Tuesday morning.

The statement, issued at 2:18 p.m. Sunday, says easterly winds will become southerly late Sunday afternoon or evening, with gusts reaching up to 70 km/h.

Stronger winds are expected Monday as a cold front moves through the region.

“Southwesterly winds Monday morning becoming westerly Monday night with gusts of 70 to 90 km/h,” the weather statement said.

Environment Canada noted the onset of the strongest wind gusts is expected with the passage of the cold front Monday morning, with winds gradually easing later Tuesday morning.

“High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break. Local utility outages are possible,” the statement said.
