The Municipality of Chatham-Kent is inviting residents to take part in a community conversation next week as it develops a long-term mobility master plan to guide transportation across the region.
In a public notice, the municipality said, “Join us on April 14 for a community conversation about the Mobility Master Plan and how it supports CK’s long term vision. April 14. Links of Kent Golf Club, 120 Indian Creek Rd W, Chatham. 4:30-7:30 pm. Chatham-Kent is preparing for future growth and your input is essential. This plan will guide improvements to roads, routes, and transportation connections across the municipality.”
Officials say the mobility master plan will help shape transportation planning over the next 20 years, aligning with updates to the municipality’s growth strategy and official plan to ensure infrastructure keeps pace with development.
The plan is expected to focus on practical improvements, including enhanced route connections, street design and the overall operation of the transportation system.
Mayor Darrin Canniff said the initiative is key to supporting the municipality’s continued growth.
“Chatham-Kent continues to grow and evolve, and this Mobility Master Plan is about making sure our transportation network grows with us,” Canniff said. “By planning ahead, we can create safer, more connected communities and ensure residents, businesses, and visitors can move efficiently throughout the municipality. This work will help support quality of life and economic opportunity across Chatham-Kent for years to come.”
Municipal officials say the plan will be shaped through public engagement, with opportunities for residents, businesses and community members to provide input both in person and online.
Edward Soldo said community feedback will play a key role in guiding future decisions.
“This plan provides a strategic framework to help us make informed, cost-effective decisions about our growing transportation system,” Soldo said. “The feedback from our community will help ensure the recommended transportation improvements meet both current and future needs.”
The first public information centre will take place April 14 from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Links of Kent Golf Club and Event Centre in Chatham. Project materials will also be available online, with public comments accepted from April 14 to April 28.
