Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A 58-year-old man suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries following a stabbing in Sarnia early Tuesday morning, police say.
Officers were dispatched at about 12:45 a.m. on April 21 to the area of Indian Road and Devine Street, where they located the victim with an apparent neck injury.
Police said the victim had previously exchanged words with another man during an earlier altercation. While walking south on the sidewalk in the 100 block of Indian Road, the victim was approached from behind and struck on the neck. The suspect then fled on foot through an alley toward Phillip Street.
Emergency services were called after the victim was found with a significant wound to his neck.
At about 12:51 a.m., officers located and arrested a 41-year-old man at a business in the 700 block of Confederation Street. Police said the accused was subject to multiple probation orders at the time of the incident.
A search of the area between Devine Street and Confederation Street did not immediately locate the weapon. Police later established a containment area, and a police service dog was deployed to assist in the search. The weapon was located in a dumpster shortly after 3 a.m.
The accused has been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to cause death, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and five counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
He was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
