Chatham library screens May film series focused on women’s stories

The Chatham-Kent Public Library is hosting a series of Tuesday afternoon film screenings in May at its Chatham branch, featuring movies centred on female figures and themes of identity and independence.

The library says this month’s lineup highlights films named after a single woman, exploring the pressures placed on women by society.

Screenings begin May 5 with Spencer, starring Kristen Stewart, Timothy Spall and Sally Hawkins.

The series continues May 12 with Jackie, featuring Natalie Portman, Peter Sarsgaard and Greta Gerwig.

On May 19, the library will screen Colette, starring Keira Knightley, Fiona Shaw and Dominic West.

The final screening on May 26 is Maudie, featuring Hawkins, Ethan Hawke and Zachary Bennett.

All films will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Chatham branch. The library says registration is not required and a $2 donation is suggested at the door.
