Battle of Longwoods re-enactment returns to Mount Brydges in May

History will come alive next month as the annual Battle of Longwoods re-enactment returns to Longwoods Road Conservation Area.

The event, presented by the Upper Thames Military Re-enactment Society and the Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority, will take place May 2 and 3.

Organizers say the weekend will feature re-enactors recreating the historic Battle of Longwoods, offering visitors a glimpse into life in the early 19th century.

Attendees can expect live tactical and artillery demonstrations, including an afternoon battle, as well as period music, military medicine presentations and guided tours of a historical encampment.

Visitors will also be able to explore interactive activities such as rope making, children’s games and a “Mini Militia” experience, where children can learn basic drills and what life was like for soldiers during the 1800s.

Merchant vendors and artisans will be on site, along with food available for purchase. The conservation area will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Self-guided tours of Ska-Nah-Doht Village and nearby nature trails will also be available throughout the event.

Admission is $10 for those aged 13 and older, while children 12 and under and military members in uniform can attend for free. Organizers note that regular parking passes are not valid during the event.
