Frost advisory issued for Chatham-Kent with risk to crops

A frost advisory has been issued for Chatham-Kent, with forecasters warning that colder overnight temperatures could damage plants and crops in vulnerable areas.

Environment Canada issued the yellow-level advisory at 3:34 p.m. on Thursday, indicating a moderate impact with high forecast confidence.

“Patchy frost is expected as temperatures drop to near or below freezing,” the advisory states.

The frost is expected overnight into early Friday morning, with officials noting that damage to plants, trees and crops is possible, particularly in frost-prone areas.

Residents are being advised to take precautions, including covering plants to reduce the risk of damage.

Officials are also encouraging the public to continue monitoring alerts and forecasts.
