A community-focused open mic night is set to take place in Chatham-Kent as part of Mental Health Week, offering a space for storytelling, reflection and connection.
The event is scheduled for May 8 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the CO., located at 208 Queen St. in Chatham. Organizers say the evening is designed to welcome both participants and listeners in a relaxed and supportive environment.
“Not everyone has the words right away, and that’s okay,” said Angel Bilagot, the CO. Creator. “This space is about creating room for people to express themselves in whatever way feels right — or to just sit, listen, and feel less alone.”
The open mic will feature an informal format where attendees can share stories, poetry or personal reflections, or simply take part by listening. Local author Joel Emery is expected to attend and contribute to the evening’s programming.
Organizers say the event is intentionally low-pressure, with no expectation for attendees to perform or prepare in advance.
“This isn’t about being perfect or performing,” Bilagot said. “It’s about connection. It’s about creating a space where people can show up, be real, and maybe leave feeling a little more understood.”
Donations will also be collected in support of the CK Youth Wellness Hub, with the goal of extending the impact of the event to youth mental health initiatives across the community.
