An international archery tournament with a history spanning more than four decades is returning to Wallaceburg this weekend, bringing together about 150 shooters from across Ontario and the United States.
“It is an international shoot consisting of 24 teams of 6 shooters. For a total of 150 shooters,” said Dell Chauvin, president of the Wallaceburg Archery Club.
Teams are travelling from communities including Detroit, Delhi, Aylmer, Bothwell and Watford, while Wallaceburg will field four teams.
“Wallaceburg has four teams this year ranging in age from 14 to early 70’s,” Chauvin said.
“This tournament has been happening for 40 plus years,” he added.
An open shoot is planned ahead of the main event.
“We have an open shoot tonight (Friday, May 1, 2026) that starts at 8 p.m. and the tournament starts at 11 a.m. Saturday,” Chauvin said.
Spectators are invited to watch at the CBD Club.
“It’s a great sport for all ages and sexes. Everyone is welcome to come upstairs to the CBD Club to watch,” he said.
Chauvin said the club encourages newcomers to get involved and offers opportunities to try the sport.
“And a great community, too. Everyone is always willing to help and assist anyone that is looking to try it and possibly join,” he said.
“If archery is something that you want to try, Wallaceburg has an open shoot every Thursday night and Saturday night both starting at 7 p.m. Come check it out, talk with shooters and we even have extra bows and and arrows and you can give it a try.”
