Climate planning, child care expansion, technology upgrades and several postponed motions are among the major items scheduled for discussion at the Municipality of Chatham-Kent council meeting on Monday evening, May 11, 2026.
Council is set to receive a presentation on the municipality’s Climate Change Action Plan from Gabriel Clarke, manager of growth and sustainability.
A Corporate Technology Strategic Plan update will also be presented by Catherine Fitzgerald, director of information technology and transformation.
Council will also review the municipality’s 2026 tax rates as part of finance and budget discussions.
Several postponed items from the April 27 council meeting are returning for debate, including a report on sidewalk winter control levels of service and a motion from Coun. Michael Bondy regarding an arena oversight committee and feasibility study.
Council is also scheduled to consider one-time Ministry of Long-Term Care funding for projects at Riverview Gardens Long-Term Care Home.
Another postponed motion from Coun. Alysson Storey Doyle regarding 110 Sandy St. in Chatham is also returning to the agenda, alongside a request for proposal award connected to the property.
Infrastructure work is also on the agenda, with council set to consider awarding Contract T26-105 for the municipality’s pavement resurfacing program.
In health and human services, council will receive information on updated provincial allocations for child care and early years programs, along with a report outlining 2026 child care expansion plans.
Fire and emergency services officials are also bringing forward an information report regarding EMS cross-border billing with Lambton County.
Additional items include a proposed extension for animal control and pound services under RFP #23-158, a proposed delegation of authority bylaw, and a motion from Coun. Rhonda Jubenville regarding amendments to the Parliament of Canada Act.
Council will also recognize Sam Knowler for winning a national arm wrestling championship and feature an artist presentation as part of Museum Month activities.
