Sarnia Police Service officials allege: The Sarnia Police Service Board says it has launched a formal independent investigation following a workplace harassment complaint filed against Sarnia Police Chief Derek Davis.
In a media release, the board said Davis has been suspended with pay effective immediately pending the outcome of the investigation.
The board described the suspension as a standard administrative procedure intended to ensure a fair, transparent and unbiased investigative process and said it does not imply any determination of wrongdoing.
Deputy Chief Michael VanSickle will continue serving as acting chief of police during the investigation, the board said.
“The Board takes all allegations of workplace harassment with the utmost seriousness,” said Kelly Ash, chair of the Sarnia Police Service Board. “Our priority is to maintain a safe, respectful workplace while ensuring the community continues to receive the highest standard of public safety and policing excellence. We ask for the public’s patience as the independent investigator conducts a thorough review.”
The Sarnia Police Service Board and Sarnia Police Service said no further comments will be made while the investigation remains ongoing.
