Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 43-year-old Wheatley man has been charged following an animal cruelty investigation in Wheatley.
Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to an animal complaint on Cemetery Road at about 12:29 p.m. on May 21 after receiving information regarding alleged animal abuse.
Police said officers located a severely injured dog and evidence of animal neglect and abuse. Animal Welfare Services attended the scene to assist with a joint investigation.
The dog was provided immediate medical care but later succumbed to its injuries.
As a result of the investigation, the man was arrested and charged with cruelty to animals causing unnecessary pain, suffering or injury.
Police said Animal Welfare Services will also be pursuing additional charges under provincial legislation related to several other farm animals located on the property.
The accused was transported to police headquarters and later released with conditions and a future court date.
