Chatham man charged after alleged road rage incident involving knife

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 34-year-old Chatham man is facing a weapons charge following an alleged road rage incident in Chatham.

Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service responded to the intersection of Lacroix Street and Richmond Street at about 12:40 p.m. on May 21 for a report of a disturbance involving a weapon.

Police said the incident stemmed from a road rage interaction between the accused and a 51-year-old Chatham man who were unknown to each other.

Investigators allege the accused exited his vehicle and approached the complainant’s driver-side window while in possession of a knife in a threatening manner.

Officers located the suspect at the scene and safely contained the situation. Police said the accused was found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle and a knife was recovered during the investigation.

The man was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

He was transported to police headquarters and later released with a future court date of Aug. 11, 2026.
