Wheatley resident charged after traffic complaint in Leamington

OPP officials allege: One person is facing multiple charges after Ontario Provincial Police investigated a traffic complaint in Leamington late Tuesday night.

Police said officers responded to a traffic complaint on Talbot Road East at approximately 11:58 p.m. on May 26.

A 28-year-old resident of Wheatley was arrested and charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and drugs, operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, possession of cocaine, driving while under suspension, having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available, and driving a vehicle with cannabis readily available.

Police also issued a 90-day administrative driver’s licence suspension and impounded the vehicle for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on July 7, 2026.

“The safety of our community is paramount, and we will continue to enforce impaired driving laws to keep our roads safe. ‘Traffic Safety is Everyone’s Responsibility’,” OPP said in a release.

Police are reminding the public to call 911 in urgent situations involving suspected impaired drivers. Non-emergency traffic complaints can be reported to 1-888-310-1122, while anonymous tips can be provided through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
