Heavy tow truck fire closes Highway 401 lanes in Chatham-Kent

OPP officials allege: A vehicle fire involving a heavy tow truck temporarily closed eastbound lanes of Highway 401 in Chatham-Kent on Friday evening.

The Ontario Provincial Police said officers were dispatched to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. on May 29. Police and Chatham-Kent Fire and Rescue crews located a heavy tow truck engulfed in flames in the eastbound lanes of Highway 401.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire and no charges are expected in connection with the incident.

Police said both eastbound lanes were closed for approximately 20 minutes while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The Ministry of the Environment attended the scene to address a fuel leak resulting from the fire.
