Members of the Lambton County OPP, along with Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services, recovered the body from the waters of Lake Huron near Port Franks.

The investigation began on May 18 at approximately 3 p.m., when Lambton County OPP, Lambton Shores Fire and Emergency Services and Lambton County Emergency Medical Services responded to a water emergency. Police said four individuals were able to reach safety and were not injured, while a fifth person remained unaccounted for.

On May 29 at approximately 2:33 p.m., police and fire personnel responded to a report of a deceased person found in the waters of Lake Huron along the shoreline in the Municipality of Lambton Shores.

With assistance from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service, the deceased was identified as a 22-year-old person from Nepal and confirmed to be the individual reported missing following the May 18 incident.

In a statement, the OPP acknowledged the impact the incident has had on those involved, their families, first responders and the wider community.
