Chatham Golden Eagles win Michigan tournament with extra-inning comeback

The Chatham Golden Eagles continued their strong season over the weekend, capturing the Michigan NSA Summer Sizzle championship after an undefeated run through the tournament.

The Eagles capped the event with a dramatic comeback victory in the championship game, rallying from a 4-1 deficit in the bottom of the seventh inning while facing their final outs.

Chatham scored three runs to tie the game and force extra innings before securing the title in the bottom of the ninth.

Lily Klompstra delivered the winning hit, lining a single into left field to drive home the championship-winning run and complete the comeback.

The tournament title marked another undefeated weekend for the Golden Eagles, who relied on timely hitting, pitching and defence throughout the competition.

Team officials said the players and coaching staff demonstrated perseverance and composure during the tournament, particularly in the championship game.

The victory adds another tournament championship to the Golden Eagles’ season and continues a successful stretch for the Chatham-based softball club.
