The Thamesville Threshing Festival returns this weekend, bringing one of rural Ontario’s most anticipated summer traditions back to the community. Director Bill Findley shared details ahead of the event, which opens Friday evening and continues through Saturday with activities for all ages.
The festival begins Friday, June 19, with the annual parade starting at 6:30 p.m. Organizers proudly describe it as the smallest town with the biggest parade in Ontario, and entries are still being welcomed. Participants can arrive with tractors, bicycles, floats or simply walk, with staging beginning at 5 p.m. at Ferguson Park. Following the parade, the beverage garden will open with a five‑dollar cover charge. Live music runs from 8 to 9 p.m. with Hunter by Knight, followed by Kilowatt Annie from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Saturday’s schedule is geared toward families, with the midway operating throughout the day. Advance day‑pass wristbands are available for thirty dollars until Friday afternoon. The popular frog‑jumping contest begins at 10 a.m., continuing a festival staple that draws large crowds each year. A full schedule can be found on the poster below. This year’s theme, Back to Our Roots in Cowboy Boots, adds a new twist. Thirty secret spotters will circulate the grounds looking for visitors dressed in cowboy boots and hats, awarding gift certificates donated by fifty local businesses.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three parade entries, and Saturday night’s schedule includes the Farmers Olympics before the festivities return to the beer garden. Dirt Country performs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., with a five‑dollar cover charge in place. A fireworks display is set for 10:15 p.m., offering a highlight to close out the weekend.
The Thamesville Threshing Festival continues to blend long‑standing rural traditions with community celebration, drawing residents and visitors together for two days of fun, music, entertainment and local pride.
