Sarnia Police Service officials allege: A construction project in Sarnia was temporarily halted after workers uncovered what were believed to be human bones.
The Sarnia Police Service said it received a report on June 17 that a construction crew working in the 1300 block of Lakeshore Road had excavated suspected human remains while digging in the area.
Work at the site was immediately discontinued.
Officers attended the scene and located bones in the excavated area that they believed to be human remains. The Office of the Chief Coroner was contacted and confirmed that the remains were human.
The Coroner’s Office is leading the investigation into the discovery, with support from the Sarnia Police Service as required.
Police said the investigation does not currently appear to be criminal in nature.
