Two longstanding Wallaceburg initiatives aimed at promoting cycling safety and positive community engagement are returning this summer.
The Wallaceburg Bike Rodeo will be held June 20 from 10 a.m. to noon, with prize draws scheduled from noon to 1 p.m.
Now in its seventh year, organizers say the event helps children build confidence while learning important bike safety skills through activities designed for all ages and skill levels.
“Each year we see children gain confidence, make new friends, and leave with skills that help keep them safe,” organizers said.
Families are encouraged to attend, and volunteers, including students seeking community service hours, are welcome.
The Sweet Summer Safety program will return beginning July 1 and continue throughout July and August.
Members of the Chatham-Kent Police Service will recognize children who demonstrate safe cycling habits by distributing Sweet Summer Safety tickets that can be redeemed for treats.
“The goal is simple, encourage safe riding habits, recognize children for making good choices, and make summer a little sweeter,” organizers said.
The initiative is supported by Wallaceburg McDonald’s, The Sugar Shack and the Chatham-Kent Police Service.
Organizers thanked volunteers, sponsors, community partners and families for their continued support.
“We are truly powered by the community,” they said.
