One person was taken to hospital after a house fire in Sarnia on Saturday afternoon.
Shortly after 12 p.m., Sarnia Fire Rescue was dispatched to a structure fire in the 200 block of Davis Street. Upon arrival, firefighters were advised that while most occupants had safely escaped the single-family home, one person was unaccounted for.
Crews encountered smoke and flames coming from the second floor and initiated an interior attack while conducting a primary search of the residence. Firefighters later determined that no one remained inside the home.
The missing occupant was subsequently located in the backyard and was immediately treated by firefighters for burn injuries and smoke inhalation before being transported to Bluewater Health for further care.
The fire has since been extinguished, although emergency crews remained at the scene Friday afternoon.
Residents were being asked to avoid the area while emergency personnel continued their work.
