Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Two men are facing drug trafficking and other charges after allegedly attempting to evade police during a drug investigation in Sarnia.
The Sarnia Police Service said its Emergency Response Team, Canine Unit and Drug Unit were investigating a vehicle occupied by two men believed to be in possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking on June 29.
Police allege the suspects attempted to flee as officers moved in to arrest them, with the vehicle reversing into a police cruiser and causing significant front-end damage. Both men then allegedly fled on foot and resisted arrest before being taken into custody.
Investigators said officers seized oxycodone pills, cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, several cellular phones, drug packaging materials, $5,720 in cash and a concealed folding knife.
A 26-year-old North York resident and a 25-year-old Ajax resident have each been charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, resisting arrest and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. The Ajax resident also faces charges of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and carrying a concealed weapon.
Both accused were held for bail hearings.
Police said the investigation into drug trafficking in the community continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarnia Police Service or submit an anonymous tip to Sarnia-Lambton Crime Stoppers.
