Heat warning continues, mix of sun & cloud, chance of showers, thunderstorm risk, high 36°C, humidex 43°C

Heat warning

A prolonged heat event continues across the region, with the most intense conditions expected through today. Daytime high temperatures will range from 31 to 35 C, with some areas potentially reaching 37 C. Overnight lows of 21 to 25 C will provide little relief from the heat. The event is expected to continue through Friday and could persist into the weekend.

Environment Canada warns that the hot and humid conditions may also reduce air quality, with the Air Quality Health Index approaching the high-risk category in some areas. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day and seek air-conditioned or cooler public spaces if needed.

The agency advises checking on older adults, people living alone and others at greater risk of heat-related illness several times a day. Early signs of heat exhaustion include headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine and extreme fatigue. Heat stroke is a medical emergency, and anyone showing symptoms such as confusion, hot red skin or loss of consciousness should receive immediate medical attention by calling 911. Environment Canada also reminds residents never to leave children, pets or anyone else inside a parked vehicle.
