Attempted murder charges laid following house fire in Sarnia

Sarnia Police Service officials allege: Two Sarnia residents are facing attempted murder charges after a house fire earlier this month left one person with serious, life-altering injuries, police say.

Sarnia Police, Sarnia Fire and Lambton EMS responded to reports of a structure fire in the 1200 block of Wiltshire Drive on July 9, 2026.

Four occupants had already made it out of the residence safely by the time emergency crews arrived. A fifth occupant was located inside the home by firefighters.

One occupant suffered minor injuries, while another sustained serious, life-altering injuries as a result of the fire. Both are expected to recover, according to police.

Fire crews extinguished the blaze before handing the scene over to Sarnia Police and fire investigators to determine its cause.

The investigation led to the arrests of a 32-year-old man and a 33-year-old woman, both of Sarnia.

Each has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and two counts of arson causing bodily harm.

The man faces an additional charge of failing to comply with a probation order.

Both accused are scheduled to appear in court.
