On, Monday, July 20, 2026, at the age of 95, Ellen Harriet Makar (nee Wright) was peacefully reunited with her beloved husband Nicholas (2016). She will be forever held dear by her sons Paul (Liz) and Andrew (Erica). Cherished grandmother of Nicole (Michael) and Robyn (Austin), and great grandmother to precious Casey.
Born in London, England Ellen’s adventurous spirit brought her to Canada in her late twenties to begin a new life, sadly leaving behind her parents and many brothers and sisters. She met Nicholas while working at Hamilton General hospital as a pediatric nurse and after raising their family in Burlington, they retired and moved to a home on the St. Clair River where they could be closer to their granddaughters. They spent many enjoyable hours fishing, boating, gardening and square dancing.
We would like to extend our sincere appreciation for the amazing care Ellen received from the wonderful staff and the many friendships she made at Village on the St. Clair.
Ellen will be laid to rest beside Nicholas during a private graveside service at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Burlington under the care of the Haycock-Cavanagh Funeral Home, 409 Nelson Street in Wallaceburg (519-627-3231).
