Sprinkler system credited with extinguishing fire at Chatham-Kent industrial building

Firefighters say a building sprinkler system did its job Monday evening, extinguishing a fire at an industrial facility on Industrial Park Road before crews arrived.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue crews from Station 17 in Merlin and Station 19 in Tilbury responded to the commercial building at 24 Industrial Park Road at approximately 7:50 p.m. on July 21, 2026, after a fire was reported.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a small fire located above one of the building’s paint booths had already been put out by the facility’s sprinkler system. No injuries were reported.

A damage estimate has not yet been determined, as cleanup and repair work are still underway. Following an inspection, the building was released back to management and employees were able to return to work.

Chatham-Kent Fire & Rescue is reminding business owners that properly maintained sprinkler systems play a critical role in protecting lives, property and business operations by controlling fires in their early stages.
