Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 27-year-old Chatham man is in custody after allegedly breaching court-ordered release conditions twice within two weeks in connection with an intimate partner violence investigation, Chatham-Kent police say.
Police say the initial investigation began July 7, after officers responded to a report of intimate partner violence in Chatham. The probe found the man had repeatedly contacted a 22-year-old woman, also of Chatham, attended her residence despite court-ordered conditions prohibiting him from doing so, and continued to message her, according to police.
He was arrested and charged with three counts of failure to comply with an undertaking, and was released with conditions barring him from attending any location where the woman lives, works or attends school, and from communicating with her directly or indirectly, police said.
On July 22 at approximately 6:47 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unwanted person at a Chatham residence. Police say officers found the man in the backyard of the home and determined he had gone to a location he was banned from and had communicated with the woman, in violation of his release order.
He was arrested again and charged with two counts of failure to comply with a release order, police said.
The man is being held at the South West Detention Centre and is scheduled to appear in video court on July 24, 2026.
