From The Pastor’s Pen – By Brian Horrobin
Early last month I was contacted by a mom whose young daughter, along with her classmate, had earned some money through a school project that they then wanted to give to our church to assist with our community meals ministry.
These two Grade 8 students pooled their $25 of seed money and bought supplies to make several candy kebabs.
They sold these at a profit and then handed me the proceeds, which totalled more than $600, in order to help others get nutritious meals that our church provides.
I posted their story on social media and got a ton of response, including an etransfer to me of $100 from one man who was inspired by the kindness and generosity of these young teenagers.
I was so impressed at how these two decided to put the needs of others first!
The Bible has a lot to say about the call to reach out and help others who are in need.
One such verse comes from Proverbs 19:17: “He who is kind to the poor lends to the LORD, and He will reward him for what he has done.”
Many of us have plenty of resources at our disposal which God can use to bless others.
However, it takes a heart that is touched by God to utilize those resources to help others.
That is what these two grade 8 students did.
I’m thinking this is a pretty decent example for all of us to follow!
There’s still a lot of summer left.
Why not pray and ask God to open your eyes to any opportunities around you where you might be a blessing to someone in need.
You cannot change the world, but you can change the world for one person.
