Harwich Township man charged with impaired driving after traffic stop in Chatham

Chatham-Kent Police Service officials allege: A 19-year-old man from Harwich Township is facing impaired driving charges following a traffic stop in Chatham over the weekend.

Chatham-Kent police say a member of the service was on general patrol in the area of St. Clair Street in Chatham on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at approximately 11:23 p.m. when they observed a motor vehicle exhibiting poor driving behaviour. Police initiated a traffic stop, and through investigation formed grounds to believe the driver was impaired by alcohol.

The driver was arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent Police headquarters for further testing. He has been charged with operation while impaired by alcohol and operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over 80 milligrams.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date of August 31, 2026.
